Baosteel supplies over 80pct of total silicon steel demand of Dongfang

Baosteel International western trading company keeps close track of the construction of Dongfang Electric Corporation Dongfang Electric Machinery Co Limited production base for wind mill generators and is proactively involved in the customer new product R&D together with Baosteel Co Limited Silicon Steel Department with remarkable effect achieved. Since the wind mill generators of Dongfang Electric was put into production less than half a year ago, Baosteel supplies over 80% of silicon steel demanded by it.

Dongfang Electric Corporation is one of the largest enterprises in China engaging in the manufactures of generating equipments and the contracts of generating station projects. It has maintained close cooperative relationships with Baosteel for many years. Last year, Dongfang Electric Machinery Co Limited under Dongfang Electric Corporation officially entered the wind power sector. It built a production base for wind mill generators in Deyang, Sichuan with a designed annual capacity of 2000 sets, which was put into production in the beginning of the this year.

Learning about this information in August 2009, Baosteel International's western trading company immediately got in touch with the technical management personnel and the relevant persons in charge of the wind mill generator projects of Dongfang Electric Machinery Co Limited to promote Baosteel non oriented silicon steel products.

Later on western trading company actively coordinated with the technicians from Baosteel Co Limited Silicon Steel Department to carry out technical exchange on manufacture of wind mill generators of Dongfang Electric, conducted certification for the development of the first product 1.5 MW generator and finally signed the agreement for technical cooperation. In December 2009, western trading company received the first order of non oriented silicon steel procurement from Dongfang Electric and effected delivery in January 2010.

Dongfang Electric gave positive comments on the stable performance of silicon steel and the excellent service of the marketing team, and deemed Baosteel as the preferred supplier of silicon steel for wind mill generators. Since this year, Dongfang Electric has made continuous procurement of many batches from Baosteel accounting for over 80% of the total procurement amount. It is learnt that 2.2MW wind mill generator newly developed by Dongfang Electric has entered the stage of prototype production and 45 tonnes of high grade non oriented silicon steel is all supplied by Baosteel.
